Charlatan
A person falsely claiming to have a special knowledge or skill; a fraud.
Example
"The self-proclaimed doctor was exposed as a charlatan, preying on the hopes of desperate people."
Etymology
From Italian ciarlatano 'a quack,' from ciarlare 'to prattle, to chatter.' The word originally referred to a mountebank or seller of fake remedies.
