Crescendo
A gradual increase in loudness in a piece of music. Also, a peak of intensity or force, often reached after a gradual increase.
Example
"The tension in the film built to a dramatic crescendo during the final chase scene."
Etymology
From Italian 'crescendo', present participle of 'crescere' meaning 'to grow'.
