Example

"The student's egregious errors on the essay resulted in a failing grade."

Etymology

From Latin egregius 'distinguished, eminent', literally 'standing out from the flock', from ex 'out of' + grex, gregis 'flock'. The word originally meant 'remarkably good', but evolved to its present negative meaning.
