Serendipitous

Occurring or discovered by chance in a happy or beneficial way.

Example

"Their meeting was entirely serendipitous, a happy accident that led to a lifelong friendship."

Etymology

Coined by Horace Walpole, from the Persian fairy tale 'The Three Princes of Serendip', who were always making discoveries, by accidents and sagacity, of things they were not in quest of.
