Sophistry
The use of misleading arguments, especially for the purpose of deceiving someone.
Example
"His entire argument was a display of clever sophistry, designed to obscure the truth rather than reveal it."
Etymology
From Greek sophistes 'a skillful man, a clever man,' from sophos 'wise, clever.' It originally had positive connotations but later became associated with specious reasoning.
